Weight loss percentage calculator

Pounds and kilos depend on your size. Percentages don’t. See how much of your starting weight you’ve lost, and how fast.

Enter your starting and current weight.

The formula

Weight loss % = (starting weight − current weight) ÷ starting weight × 100

Example: from 92 kg to 85.5 kg is 6.5 ÷ 92 × 100 = 7.1%. Over 10 weeks that’s 0.71% per week, right in the sustainable 0.5–1% range.

Why 5% and 10% are milestones

The CDC points out that a modest loss of 5–10% of total body weight is likely to bring health benefits such as better blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. Those are worth celebrating even if the mirror hasn’t caught up yet.

For the cleanest numbers, log daily in the weight tracker and compare 7-day averages rather than single mornings. Here’s why.

Questions people ask

How do you calculate weight loss percentage?

Subtract your current weight from your starting weight, divide by the starting weight and multiply by 100. Losing 8 kg from 100 kg is 8 ÷ 100 × 100 = 8%.

Why does weight loss percentage matter?

It makes progress comparable between people of different sizes, and it is how health guidance frames benefits: the CDC notes that losing 5–10% of body weight can improve blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.

What is a good weekly weight loss percentage?

Roughly 0.5–1% of body weight per week is a common, sustainable target. Faster loss tends to cost more muscle, especially if protein intake and resistance training are low.

Should I use my lowest weigh-in or my average?

Use averages. A single low morning exaggerates progress and a high one hides it. The weight tracker’s 7-day average is ideal for both the start and current values.
